When I feel like I have to build something fancy for my startup, I just look at Amazon's home page. Amazon does thousands of A/B tests a day to see what content and website structure works best and they have a very simple and intuitive site. So if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. Coming to marketing, I love content-led SEO. You write high quality content for your readers & optimise for Google, and you're golden. Age-old technique, nothing fancy but works all the time :)
